The Keshi pearl at the centre of this necklace is 25mm and a world of its own. One end is a large, smooth, glossy dome in deep blue-black with swirling violet and aubergine undertones; in certain light it looks almost like polished jet. The other end opens into a folded, rippled wing of teal-blue and warm pink-purple nacre that flashes differently at every angle. On the fine 18k gold-filled cable chain, the contrast is extraordinary: midnight pearl, warm gold, nothing competing.
At 40 cm, it sits at the collarbone. On the neck, it reads as small, dark, and intriguing, until someone gets close and sees the depth of the colour and the scale of the pearl.
